We are very excited about our 2nd release of the Kiona Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend is made up of two different blocks of the vineyard site. 53% of the blend is the North Block, which is the some of the oldest plantings on Red Mountain. 47% is Block 7, which is located farther up the slope at a bit of a higher elevation with younger vines. Each block of the vineyard site provided us with distinctive aromas and flavors and we are really pleased with complexity of the final blend. We harvested both blocks in late September and used the pump-under fermentation method with PDM yeast. 100% Malolactic Fermentation was completed in 59-gallon French Oak barrels. The wine aged for 31 months in 63% new French Oak barrels.
100 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
53% North Block Kiona Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain
47% Block 7 Kiona Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain
Crème Brulee and Vanilla Bean combine with an earthiness of eucalyptus and sage rounded out by a ripe currant on the nose. Red Mountain’s higher elevation yields a savory wine with black cherry and dark fruits with a touch of mint, dark cocoa, and dusty tannins.
